Frequently asked questions

  • How many years of experience do you have in the electrical field?
As of 2024 we are in our 20th Year of independent electrical contracting.
  • Does a licensed electrician need to perform all electrical work in WA State?
Yes! If you are hiring an electrician to do work on your home they must be a WA State licensed electrician. You can ask to see the licence which all electricians must carry while working.
  • Can I pay with a credit card?
Yes. We take all major credit cards as well as bank transfers and online payment systems.
  • Do I need a 200 Amp panel?
The answer to this question is complex. The new construction standard is a 200 Amp main electrical panel which in most cases will allow for modern electric equipment like, EV Chargers, heat pumps and A\C, hot tubs, on demand water heaters and similar high demand electric appliances.
  • What is involved with installing a hard wired EV (Electric Vehicle) charger?
Once you’ve scheduled your appointment expect the following: Element Northwest PLLC will purchase an electrical permit through the jurisdiction which serves your community. This process is usually done online using information already collected from you, the customer. Anticipate the working space that the electrician will need. Be sure to have three feet of working clearance in front of your electrical panel and location of the new charger. Clear the wall space where the wall charger or charging outlet is to be installed. If it seems that overhead work may be needed, i.e., over a garage door or across a ceiling make sure your electrician has room for using a ladder. Once onsite the electrician may start by confirming the location you would like your charger installed. They will then likely remove the cover from your electrical panel and discuss the possible need for power to be shut off. In most cases the main power can be left on during the installation process. On many installations when a panel does not have room to install your new breaker for the charger, individual circuits will be rearranged to accommodate it, therefore creating a need to shut power off to the impacted circuits. These circuits could be shut down\turned off for 15 to 30 minutes. There are several installation methods and different types of electrical material that the electrician could use as their preferred method of installation. Typical installations will use conduit that will be run along the surface of the wall terminating at both the electrical panel and charger or charging outlet. If you would prefer concealed wiring or wiring installed in the wall be sure that the electrician knows this and discuss potential implications for wall repair and the possible costs involved in completing the install with this method. When the wiring is complete the electrician will test for proper voltage of the charger. (If you’ve chosen and purchased the charger from a third party do not assume the electrician is well versed on the software connectivity, if needed to complete the installation. Be prepared to connect via wifi and specified app.) If your electric vehicle is available, test your new charging point. Plug your car in for the first time while the electrician is still onsite. It is very rare for a charger and car combination to have a problem charging. Once the installation is complete the contractor will arrange the electrical inspection or complete a virtual inspection with a City of State agency.
  • Does Element Northwest Install ceiling fans or bathroom exhaust fans?
Yes, we regularly install all types of residential ceiling fans and exhaust fans in homes. Pricing ranges from $399 - $1200 depending on the complexity and logistics of the install.
